BMW celebrates the 50th Anniversary of BMW M with a Limited Edition 3.0 CSL

BMW reinvents the legendary 3 litre CSL to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the BMW M division.

BMW revealed its 'most exclusive model yet', the 3.0 CSL Coupé.

BMW tweeted:

'A reinvention of a role model. Back in 1973, the racing version of the BMW 3.0 CSL dominated European Touring Cars, and its road version, won our hearts.

To celebrate the momentous 50 year anniversary of #BMWM an exclusive model, the new BMW 3.0 CSL, is born.'

The Munich company said it will only produce 50 units of the 3.0 CSL.

Design

The 3.0 CSL is based on the original racing CSL from the 1970s. Its mostly carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic exterior comes in Alpine white and features the same M strips as the original as well as "50" decals, which are hand-painted by specialists.

The carbon and leather interior houses two Alcantara seats in the front but no rear seats, instead the rear contains compartments for storing helmets. Each unit has a number out of 50 marked on the dashboard.

Specs

The 3.0 CSL packs a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six engine capable of outputting 560hp, making it the most powerful inline-six ever used in a road-legal BMW M car. The CSL is a rear wheel drive and features a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Price and release dates

The BMW 3.0 CSL is expected to be released some time in 2023, and with a higher price tag to the M4 CSL’s $140,895 (£116,844), according to yahoo!
